On the occasion of National Sports Day, sports were organised for the students by the Sports Department of Usha Martin University. Students participated in the matches of cricket and volleyball, and the programme was inaugurated by Dr. Anil Kumar Mishra, Registrar. He addressed the students and said that this time the theme of National Sports Day is “Sports enable an inclusive and fit society”, and really sports are an integral part of our lives; they not only keep us fit but also make us mentally sharp and capable. He said on this day the great players of India are honoured with sports awards for their talent, which include the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratan Award, the Arjuna Award, the Dronacharya Award, and the Rastriya Khel Protsahan Award. On the occasion, Dean Academics, Prof. Himanshu Narayan, also told the students that today is the birthday of Major Dhyan Chand Singh, the great hockey player of India, and National Sports Day is celebrated to pay tribute to his legacy. Major Dhyan Chand is famously known as the magician of hockey. He won the gold medal in the Olympics for India in the years 1928, 1932, and 1936. All the students participated enthusiastically in the programme, which was conducted by Sports Coordinator Tejender Mundu.
