Ranchi, 5 August 2026: Usha Martin University (UMU), Ranchi, organised the #NewVoters Campaign in collaboration with the Office of the Chief Electoral Officer, Jharkhand, and the National Service Scheme (NSS) to promote voter awareness among young citizens.
The programme, coordinated by Dr. Jayantika Pal, Dean, Students’ Welfare, focused on encouraging students who have attained the age of 18 years to register as voters and participate actively in the democratic process. Prof. Rajnikant, Vice Chancellor; Dr. Shiv Pratap Verma, Registrar; Dr. B. N. Sinha, Dean Academics; and Dr. Anil Kumar Mishra, Campus Director, attended the programme and highlighted voting as both a constitutional right and a civic responsibility.
Students were guided on voter registration through Form 6 and encouraged to motivate their peers and family members to register. They also took a pledge to become responsible and informed voters.
The active participation of students, faculty members and NSS volunteers made the campaign a successful initiative towards strengthening electoral awareness and encouraging greater youth participation in democracy. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr. Jayantika Pal and a collective pledge to contribute towards a stronger, inclusive and vibrant democracy.
