Ranchi, 8 September 2026:Usha Martin University (UMU), Ranchi, celebrated World Physiotherapy Day 2026 in the gracious presence of Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Brig. (Dr.) SumarVir Singh, Registrar Dr. Shiv Pratap Verma, Campus Director Dr. Anil Kumar Mishra, and Dean Academics Prof. (Dr.) B. N. Sinha, along with the faculty members and students of the department.The celebration highlighted the vital role of physiotherapy and physical activity in promoting health, preventing disability and improving quality of life. Addressing the theme of the day, Dr. Akanksha AnandSaxena (PT) Head, Department of Physiotherapy, spoke on “Role of Physiotherapy & Physical Activity in Prevention, Management & Rehabilitation in Cardiovascular Disease & Stroke,”emphasizing the importance of regular physical activity, timely intervention and rehabilitation in preventing complications, improving functional recovery and promoting long-term cardiovascular and neurological health.
The Department organized a series of academic, clinical, professional and community-based activities, including a Physiotherapy Camp at the 26th Battalion SashastraSeema Bal (SSB), Angara, a Two-Day Hands-On Kinesio Taping Workshop, and various student-centered activities designed to enhance clinical skills, professional awareness and community engagement. A special felicitation ceremony was also held to honor senior physiotherapists Dr. Abhay Kumar Pandey, Dr. Dinesh Kumar Thakur, Dr. Uma Sen Gupta, Dr. Kankana Kesh, Dr. Istiyak Imam Ansari, Dr. Ashish Kumar Singh, Dr. Rajeev Ranjan and Dr. Navin Singh, along with the medical officers of SSB, Angara, in recognition of their valuable contribution to healthcare and their role in supporting and nurturing future physiotherapists. The celebration reaffirmed UMU’s commitment to quality healthcare education, evidence-based physiotherapy practice, community service and the development of competent and socially responsible healthcare professionals.
