Ranchi, 2 October 2024: Students of the Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA) Cell of Usha Martin University actively participated in and organized various events during special Gram Sabha meetings held in the villages of Berwari, Janum, Narayansoso, and Angara to mark Gandhi Jayanti.The event commenced with opening remarks by the respective Mukhiya and Pradhans of the villages. Elders aged over 75 years were invited as special guests, where they shared their experiences regarding the physical and social conditions of their Gram Panchayats, memories of the first Panchayat elections, and the journey and achievements of local governance. They also highlighted the existing gaps and shared their vision for the future of the Panchayats.A tree plantation campaign followed, in which the elders were assisted in planting trees named after them, symbolizing their legacy. The participants, including students, village youth, and the community, took several important pledges including the Swachhata Pledge, a Pledge Against Drug Abuse, and the Fit India Pledge. Inspired by the elders, the youth of the villages took an oath to work towards achieving the vision shared by the senior members.
The students of the UBA Cell took the opportunity to explain Gram Panchayat Development Plans (GPDP), the localization of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and the Sankalp initiative, providing valuable insights into community-driven development. Following this, a cleanliness drive was conducted, where all participants actively engaged in cleaning their surroundings, reinforcing the message of Gandhian values of cleanliness and civic responsibility. The program concluded with the National Anthem, marking a successful and impactful day of community engagement and development. Prominent attendees included Shri Madhusudhan Munda, Mukhiya of Angara, Shri Sukhram, Pradhan of Narayansoso, Shri Mahavir Munda, Pradhan of Janum, Smt. Sarita Tirkey, Mukhiya of Salhan, and Smt. Bimala Choudhury, Upmukhiya. The event was coordinated by Dr. Lopamudra Satapathy, UBA Coordinator, with active participation from student coordinators Ansh Raj, Vijayalaxmi, Monalisa, Riddhi Anand, Rohit, Srijan, Naresh, Shubham, Basudev, and Alok of the UBA Cell.
