Awareness Program Organized under Anti-Drug Campaign at Usha Martin University

Ranchi, June 21, 2024 – In a significant move to combat drug abuse, Usha Martin University organized an extensive awareness program under its Anti-Drug Campaign. The program took the form of a community meeting, or ‘Chaupal,’ aimed at educating and sensitizing students and staff about the dangers of drug use. The event featured prominent figures such as Ranchi CID Deputy SP Raj Kumar Yadav, Jharkhand High Court Advocate and member of the District Legal Services Authority, Ranchi, Rajesh Kumar, and Atul Gera from Jharkhand Thalassemia Foundation.

The program was designed to spread awareness about the detrimental effects of drug abuse. Experts provided valuable insights into identifying drug abuse and offered strategies for prevention. The event took place on the university campus, where approximately 150 students and staff members actively participated.

Deputy SP Raj Kumar Yadav highlighted the legal repercussions and societal impact of drug abuse. He shared real-life cases to illustrate the severe consequences of drug addiction, emphasizing the importance of staying drug-free. Advocate Rajesh Kumar discussed the legal framework surrounding drug abuse and the role of the District Legal Services Authority in providing support and rehabilitation to those affected. Atul Gera from Jharkhand Thalassemia spoke about the health implications of drug use, drawing connections to broader public health issues.

The university’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Madhulika Kaushik, addressed the gathering with a powerful speech. She expressed grave concern about the rising trend of drug abuse among students. “The misuse of drugs among our youth is a serious issue that requires immediate attention,” she stated. Professor Kaushik emphasized the critical role of education and awareness in combating this menace. “Awareness and education are key components in our fight against drug abuse,” she said, urging everyone to contribute to creating a drug-free campus.

The Vice-Chancellor also highlighted the university’s ongoing efforts to promote a healthy and safe environment for its students. She mentioned various initiatives and support systems in place to help students deal with stress and peer pressure, which are often the underlying causes of drug abuse.

The event concluded with an interactive session where students and staff could ask questions and share their thoughts. The experts addressed various queries, providing practical advice and resources for those seeking help. The interactive nature of the session ensured that participants left with a clear understanding of the issues surrounding drug abuse and the steps they could take to avoid it.

The successful organization of this awareness program underscored Usha Martin University’s commitment to fostering a safe and supportive educational environment.
