Experts Talk on Debunking Fake News and Mobile Journalism
Ranchi, January 28, 2020: Usha Martin University (UMU) organized a two-day workshop on ‘Debunking Fake News and Mobile Journalism’ on the 23rd and 24th of January at its Ranchi-Khunti Highway Campus. Dr. Mrinal Chatterjee, a seasoned media educator from Odisha and the Center Head of the Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC), Dhenkanal, was there as a significant resource person, multimedia journalist, and faculty at IIMC Dhenkanal, whereas Sambit Pal was there to conduct lectures and practical on the existing fake news landscape in India.
Prof. S. C. Garg, Vice-Chancellor of the University, underlined that effective communication between professionals and students will satisfy the latter and help them in honing skills that will be useful to them shortly. Interested students and teachers from various institutions across the state of Jharkhand were invited to the workshop. The program combined the resource persons’ ideas and lessons learned in actively teaching young professionals to become more digitally aware.
“Through this workshop, we hope to bring media professionals to connect with students and raise their ethical awareness of media practices, which will help them prepare for the future.” In this program, students also learned how to create content using their smartphones,” stated Dr. Kirti Singh, Head of Usha Martin University’s Department of Journalism and Mass Communication.
Detecting and locating fake news, introducing Mobile Journalism, building storyboards and shooting skills, the art and craft of visual storytelling, and editing visual stories on smartphones were all discussed during the program. Dr. Madhulika Kaushik, the Pro-Vice-Chancellor of Usha Martin University, also attended this workshop.
