The Faculty of Agriculture, Usha Martin University (UMU), in collaboration with the Unnat Bharat Cell, organized an Extension-cum-CSR activity at its adopted village, Childaag, on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The programme was inaugurated by Vice Chancellor (VC): Prof. Madhulika Kaushik, Pro Vice Chancellor (PVC): Prof. (Dr.) Milind, Registrar: Dr. Shiv Pratap Verma of the Usha Martin University.
The initiative aimed to strengthen the knowledge and skills of smallholder farmers and to promote sustainable and eco-friendly agricultural practices. During the programme, farmers were introduced to modern agricultural technologies for preventing crop damage and enhancing productivity. Special emphasis was laid on the role of Artificial Intelligence in agriculture.
A live demonstration of AI-based insect pest identification was conducted using the Plantix – The Smart Crop Assistant mobile application, which enables farmers to identify crop diseases and pests by uploading images. Experts from the Faculty of Agriculture also explained Trichoderma (biofertilizer) production technology, Zero Energy Cool Chamber technology for low-cost storage, and various organic farming practices.

Farmers were further encouraged to adopt cow urine–based home gardening as a sustainable method for income generation and environmental conservation.
The programme was coordinated by Ms. Priya Priyanka Tudu, Dr. Bela Bhagat, Dr. Bireswar Kundu, Dr. Sunil Kumar, and Mr. Saikat Mukherjee, who ensured effective interaction between experts and farmers through practical demonstrations and discussions.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from local farmers, who appreciated the hands-on approach and valuable guidance provided. The initiative reflects Usha Martin University’s strong commitment to rural development, farmer empowerment, and the promotion of sustainable agriculture under the Unnat Bharat Abhiyan.
