Ranchi, October 15, 2025 — The Faculty of Journalism and Mass Communication, Usha Martin University, participated in the 1st Dharti Aaba Tribal Film Festival at the Tribal Research Institute (TRI), Ranchi organised by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs. The programme offered students a valuable opportunity to explore indigenous storytelling traditions and understand the sociocultural and political dimensions of tribal life in India.

During the session, students viewed acclaimed tribal documentaries such as Khadmod, Bandhua, and Puise Dare. The screenings were followed by interactive discussions with tribal filmmakers from across the country, scholars, and community members. These interactions deepened the students’ understanding of how cinema serves as a medium for social change, identity preservation, and cultural expression among India’s tribal communities.

The visit also helped students gain insight into the lives, traditions, and livelihoods of Jharkhand’s tribal groups through visual narratives and first-hand engagement. The educational trip was coordinated by Mr. Amit Kumar, and Mr. Ramesh Munda of the Faculty of Journalism and Mass Communication, Usha Martin University.
