The two-day national conference on Communication and Innovation for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): A Key Towards Transformation of the World, organized by the Department of Planning and Development, Government of Jharkhand, and Usha Martin University, commenced on December 7th and 8th with an inauguration by Honourable Shri Rameshwar Oraon, Minister of Planning and Development, Jharkhand. The esteemed minister underscored the commitment of the Jharkhand government to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, highlighting ongoing efforts and calling upon academicians to actively contribute to the success of these endeavours.
Minister Rameshwar Oraon emphasized the collaborative nature required to attain these goals, stating that collective efforts are paramount in realizing shared objectives. He commended the joint initiative of the Planning and Development Department and Usha Martin University for organizing the conference, acknowledging the pivotal role of such forums in fostering dialogue and collaboration.
Anup Srivastava, Member Secretary of Chhattisgarh State Planning Commission, graced the occasion as a special guest. Mr Srivastava provided insights into the policies implemented by the state of Chhattisgarh and highlighted the significance of meticulous planning and judicious resource utilization in achieving sustainable development goals.
The Vice Chancellor of Usha Martin University, Prof. Madhulika Kaushik, delved into the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) report, elucidating how sustainability can catalyse positive global transformation. She underscored the pivotal role of quality education in advancing sustainable development goals, emphasizing the need for a well-informed and educated populace.
Pro-Chancellor of Usha Martin University, Prof. S C Garg, stressed the importance of collaboration between governmental bodies and educational institutions. He asserted that viable solutions to societal challenges become attainable when both entities work together.
The event also featured the valuable perspective of UNICEF Jharkhand Chief, Mrs. Kaninika Mitra. Mrs. Mitra shared her insights and experiences, contributing to the comprehensive discourse on sustainable development goals.
