On the occasion of World Environment Day, the Faculty of Agriculture and the NSS Unit of Usha Martin University (UMU), Ranchi organized a vibrant and impactful Tree Plantation Drive within the university campus. The event aimed to spread awareness about environmental conservation and promote sustainable living practices among students and staff.
The drive was graced by several eminent dignitaries of the university including Dr. Anil Kumar Mishra, Registrar, UMU; Dr. B. N. Sinha, Dean (Academics), UMU; Dr. Jagesh Kumar Ranjan, NSS Coordinator; Dr. Shubhra Sekhar Chakraborty, NSS Programme Officer (Unit II); Mr. Sasank Dev Bhuiyan, NSS Programme Officer (Unit I); Dr. Abhishek Pandey, former NSS coordinator and Head, faculty of engineering and applied sciences and Dr. Lopamudra Satapathy, UBA coordinator along with all other faculty and staffs from the university.
A total of 56 NSS volunteers actively participated in the plantation program. More than 150 saplings of different plant species including Mahogany, Bougainvillea, Arjun, Ashok, Mango, and Litchi were planted around the campus with the aim to enhance biodiversity and beautify the surroundings.
The university authorities lauded the initiative and encouraged students to take responsibility for nurturing the plants. Speaking on the occasion, the Registrar, Dr. Anil Kumar Mishra, emphasized the importance of tree plantation in combating climate change and preserving ecological balance.
The event concluded with a collective pledge by all participants to care for the newly planted trees and to act as responsible stewards of the environment. The drive served as a strong reminder of the role educational institutions can play in building a greener and more sustainable future.
