UMU Honors Kargil Vijay Diwas with Inspiring Events

On 26th July 2023, the National Service Scheme (NSS) wing and UBA cell of Usha Martin University (UMU) jointly organized a commemorative event, Kargil Vijay Diwas, to honor the Indian Army’s triumph in the Kargil War of 1999. The event brought together around 50 volunteers who gathered to pay heartfelt tributes to the brave soldiers of the Indian Army. These courageous souls fought valiantly and sacrificed to defend our country during the war against Pakistan.

The guest speaker for the occasion was Hon. Col. Akhauri Ranjan Sinha, a distinguished individual with an impressive service record. Having participated in the Bangladesh War and served in Mizoram and Nagaland during counter-insurgency operations from 1974 to 1980, he provided valuable insights into the Kargil war’s intensity. Col. Akhauri Ranjan Sinha shed light on how our soldiers fought relentlessly to reclaim the Indian territory occupied by Pakistan, showcasing their unwavering commitment to the nation and the armed forces.

During the event, Vice-Chancellor Prof. S.C. Garg felicitated Col. Akhuri Ranjan Sinha and Mrs. Ankita Pandey, the wife of Late Hawaldar Shashi Bhusan Pandey, as the Guests of Honor. Faculty members and NSS volunteers participated in a solemn flag march, paying homage to the martyrs.

The program culminated with a pledge-taking ceremony, where all volunteers and faculties solemnly vowed to uphold the spirit of nationalism. The event concluded on a patriotic note with the singing of the national anthem, inspiring a strong sense of patriotism among all present.

Several distinguished personalities from UMU also attended the program, including Deputy Registrar, Dr. Leena Srivastava, Prof. Himanshu Narayan, the Dean of Academics; Dr. Abhishek Pandey, NSS Coordinator, Dr. Shubhra Sekhar Chakraborty, Programme Officer NSS; Dr. Jagesh Ranjan and Dr. Lopamudra Satapathy, Programme Officer NSS, and HOD of Faculty of Agriculture and coordinator of Unnat Bharat Abhiyan.

The Kargil Vijay Diwas event served as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by our soldiers and the importance of honoring their courage and dedication in safeguarding our nation.
