He is known for his revolutionary contributions in the field of engineering and has been rewarded with many prestigious awards for the same.

Engineers play an unprecedented role in the infrastructure development of the nation. They do more than just Mathematics and Science, and build the future of the nation through invention, discovery and exploration. On the occasion of this Engineers Day on 15 September 2021, Usha Martin University is showing gratitude to all engineers across the globe for their magnificent contribution to uplifting human civilization. In the admiration of all engineers across the globe, this article aims to shade light on top five revolutionary engineering inventions that changed the world.

5 Revolutionary Engineering Inventions that Changed the World

  1. Electricity
  2. Light Bulb
  3. Television
  4. Computer
  5. Internet
  6. Electricity:

1. Electricity:

We all know the power of electricity. Electricity is the fundamental need of all modern inventions and today its significance doesnโ€™t need to explain. Although, we all use electricity, but how many of you know the evolution of electricity? Italian physicist, Alessandro Volta discovered the first practical method of generating electricity. The year 1831 marked a breakthrough for electricity when British scientist Michael Faraday discovered the basic principles of electricity generation.

2. Light Bulb:

Light bulb which is illuminating the world is a bright idea from more than 150 years ago. Thomas Elva Edison and Swan patented the first light bulb in 1879 and 1880. In the mid-1980s, CFLs hit the market.

3. Television:

Television, a wonderful device, we all know its importance and today it is an integral part of our life.ย  Do you want to know the story behind the invention of television? The initial stage of the invention of Television is quite dramatic. The first television camera was invented by two men Vladimir Zworykin and Philo Taylor, they both were working on the same things without knowing. Paul Gottlieb Nipkow created and patented the first television in 1884, later which he called the electromechanical television system. Though Color TV was not a new idea, in 1925 Zworykin filed a patent for an electronic color television system.

ย 4. Computer:

It was the brilliant brain of Charles Babbage, a mechanical engineering graduate for laying the foundation for this remarkable and most reliable invention. Today, computer is the symbolic representation of the modern world and doesnโ€™t need to explain its power and significance when it is connected with the internet.

5. Internet:

The development of the Internet started with computers in the United States around 1950. Since the mid-1990s, the Internet has had a profound impact on technology, including the rise of electronic mail, instant messaging, voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) telephone calls, and two-way interactive video calls.

The Significance of Engineersโ€™ Day in India

From the Stone Age to the modern era, engineers have always been forefront in producing ground-breaking solution of any problems. They play a significant role in shaping and uplifting society. Engineersโ€™ Day is observed in India on September 15 in honour of Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya. He was an extraordinary genius who played significant role in the sphere of engineering through his stellar work and also known as โ€œThe Father of Indian Engineeringโ€. In addition to engineering, Mr. Visvesvaraya was a great scholar and a statesman. This post aims to pay tribute to Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya, shed light his some remarkable work and sharing some knowledgeable insights.
